Before the Great War, the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi had developed a project to build hydroelectric plants. The purpose of this program was to electrify the railroads in the Pyrenean network. A construction railway was laid in 1920 in the Ossau valley. The purpose of this measure was to facilitate the work that was being done to build the Artouste lake dam. From that time on, the Artouste train<\/strong> was used to transport both the men and the materials used for this colossal project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An unforgettable excursion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The departure is at the level of the village of Fabr\u00e8ges<\/strong>. The adventure starts from the Sagette cable car. It will take you to an altitude of nearly 2000 m. During this ascent, you will be able to admire the breathtaking view which is offered to you. Once you arrive, you will board the train: 10 km of tracks<\/strong> promise you a unique excursion. The train stops at the Lake station. It takes about 20 minutes to walk<\/strong> to the lake of Artouste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
